Welcome to writ4cancerawareness!

Welcome to our page writ4cancerawareness.com!  Our daughter Lauren was diagnosed in February of 2011 with a brain tumor.  Within a few days of her diagnosis and surgery (resection) we were informed that she would need chemotherapy and radiation.  There were so many terms, treatments, symptoms, side effects, etc. that we were not aware of.   In a way it was good that we were exposed to all of these variables a little at a time so that we could gradually adjust.  We decided to create this site to increase awareness of Childhood Cancer while providing a venue for people of all ages to come together with their thoughts and feelings. This may help friends and family members to learn about children with cancer and also what they are exposed to during their treatment.  Sometimes friends may not know what to say to someone with Cancer or to know what the patient is going through.  Children or families of children with cancer may find reading the blogs posted here supportive and helpful during their treatment as well.    Poems, Short Essays, and Blogs of your thoughts and feelings are welcome!    This is a place where anyone is welcome to write about what they are thinking.

Here are some general “House Rules.”

1.  Please use respect while commenting on someone’s post and when adding your own work.  If you abuse the discussion forum by making harassing, inappropriate or abusive statements you will removed.

2.  Keep in mind that forum discussions are public, and care should be taken when determining what to post.

3. Please use Word or equivalent software to proof your postings to minimize spelling and grammatical errors.   That will be an easy way to also monitor your word count of less than 350 words.

4.  Enjoy and make sure to share with your friends and family!

  1. When your child is sick, nothing else exists. It is amazing how you can forget about so many other things. Nothing else seems to matter. Nothing else except taking care of her/him and helping them to improve and recover. Love you so so much Lauren!
    Love your Mom, Elizabeth

  2. Just stopping in to say hi! Lots of tests and things going on..but I will try to come by as soon as I can! I haven’t even been going to class cause I’ve been so busy! But Lauren knows how much I rather hang out with her than go to class anyways 🙂 I’ve been guilty of watching one too many episodes of Millionaire Matchmaker with Lauren and missing class..oops! But, totally worth it! Hope the numbers are up, and everyone is feeling good! See you soon. xoxo

  3. Ooo one more thing! I forget to tell you! Someone was telling me of this new website/app called “pinterest”..and of course I thought of you Lauren. Seems like something we are going to love! I’ve heard its more addicting than Stumble though, so I should probably hold off until after all my tests..but check it out and let me know how it is. It’s like all DIY crafts and people upload pics and stuff of all their creative ideas. I think our bracelets would be a big hit! Let me know what you think 🙂

  4. Hi again. One more thing….I was just think it is amazing, wonderful, so fortunate that you all are able to be together to be strong for one another during this difficult time. There is no doubt between prayer, strong faith, love, strength of unity can bring incredible healing. It is hard to write what my heart is feeling so deeply for you. We miss you. I am ready to see you driving home down 178th.
